Industry ball, procedural platformer
Industry Ball is a rogue-like platformer which was released in 2023. I led a small team of veteran developers which ultimately was a sucess of creating a unique and fun product. Not many people got to experience the game, but it still serves at one of my ultimate designs as I got to direct virtually every moment of the game. A passion project from my heart. From conception, to government grants, to marketing, this project allowed us to helm the ship of a small but very meaningful passion project.

PLAY THE GAME:
Industry Ball is a game where every stage is different, every round throws new challenges at you - infinitely. Collect shards to clear a stage, and every round introduces more elaborate stage configurations.
Balance was created with controlled variables such as stage width, number of platforms generated, amounts of obstacles.
On Stage 1, there are few collectables and platforming challenges. But soon, all these elements increase.
By Stage 5, Anomalies disrupt the player (rotating stage in this example), time limit goes down, and more obstacles are introduced.
There was a fine balance of testing to ensure the progression felt natural. Rewarding at first, punishing 5-10 min in.
We overcame the challenge of infinite stages by slow introducing powerups, anomlies (stage altering effects) and difficult platforming.
One of my proudest designs is with this main menu. We utilized asymetric design asthetic to visually enforce the strange nature of the game while keeping buttons large, eye catching and very clickable.
Color was an important obstacle here. Blue symbolized safety, and core gameplay importance, while yellow symbolized shopping, purchasing and unlocking.
We wanted every Ball (essentially a vehicle) design to have it’s own style, and stats which elevated the game from a pure arcade platformer, to thoughtfully integrate RPG elements.
This screen was challenging as it forced us to incorporate many elements such as names, prices, and stats while being able to showcase the Balls on a stage (as you can see at the top).
